New Delhi : Delhi has been reeling under a spate of bomb threats over the past few months, with hoax emails targeting courts, schools, colleges, hospitals, and government offices. These threats have triggered panic among citizens and forced security agencies to stay on high alert.
On Friday, chaos erupted at the Delhi High Court after an email warned of blasts and claimed that three bombs were planted, including one inside a judge’s chamber. The message also mentioned Pakistan’s ISI and threatened acid attacks on political leaders.
Delhi Police quickly evacuated the premises, deployed bomb disposal teams, and launched a cyber cell probe to trace the source of the email.
Just days earlier, similar bomb threats hit the Delhi Chief Minister’s Secretariat and Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC). The mails specified blast timings, forcing full-scale evacuations and searches. Police later declared the alerts hoaxes.
In August, nearly two dozen colleges and over 100 schools received threatening emails. On August 21, six schools in Dwarka and Prasad Nagar were evacuated, while on August 18, Delhi Public School, Dwarka, also faced a bomb scare. Earlier in July, multiple schools and colleges, including five in Dwarka, had to evacuate after hoax emails.
The repeated threats have alarmed parents, students, and institutions. Officials believe the culprits may be hiding behind Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to mask their identities, making the probe more complex.
Delhi Police have stepped up coordination with the Special Cell, cyber-crime unit, and Disaster Management Authority to respond quickly to each alert. While most threats have proven false, officials insist they are taking no chances. Security agencies are intensifying efforts to track the source of the emails and catch those behind the wave of panic in the capital.
