Kishanganj : All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi launched his party’s campaign for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections on Wednesday with the Seemanchal Nyay Yatra, expressed readiness to join the Mahagathbandhan alliance, and demanded six seats to contest.
Speaking to reporters in Kishanganj, where he flagged off the yatra, Owaisi said AIMIM had already approached the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav with its proposal.
“The party’s state president, Akhtarul Iman, has written a letter to the Leader of Opposition. We clearly stated through the media that AIMIM is ready for the alliance. Akhtarul Iman also demanded six seats in his last letter,” Owaisi said.
“Now the alliance must take a decision. If they fail, the people of Bihar will see who supports BJP and who works to stop it. The decision rests with the voters. We have fulfilled our responsibility. Tomorrow, no one should claim we did not communicate. We tried our best and presented the matter before the people,” he added.
Responding to Tejashwi Yadav’s assurance of jobs for youth with degrees, Owaisi remarked, “First, he should examine the school dropout rate in Bihar. How many students graduate? He must decide based on these facts. If degrees matter, then records of previous governments should also show how many schools and colleges they opened.”
During the yatra, Owaisi will hold roadshows and address corner meetings across various constituencies in the Seemanchal region. For over a decade, the AIMIM chief has highlighted the backwardness of the area.
He previously introduced a Private Member’s Bill in the Lok Sabha demanding the creation of a Seemanchal Region Development Council to address the region’s developmental concerns.
In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, AIMIM contested 19 constituencies and won five seats: Amour, Kochadaman, Baisi, Jokihat, and Bahadurganj. However, four MLAs switched to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in 2022.
This time, the party plans to contest more seats, with signals that several influential leaders and social workers want to fight elections on AIMIM tickets.
