Balangir, Odisha : The District Education Officer (DEO) of Balangir has ordered the suspension of salaries for 11 Block Education Officers (BEOs) after they reportedly failed to meet their assigned tree plantation targets under the “One Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative.
The action pertains to the July salary of the concerned officers who could not fulfill the plantation goals set for their respective blocks. The districts affected include Agalpur, Saintala, Titilagarh, Deogaon, Gudvela, Bangomunda, Muribahal, Turekela, Belpada, Patnagarh, and Puintala.
Sources in the education department confirmed that the officers were instructed to plant a specified number of trees as part of the state’s environmental awareness and afforestation campaign. The DEO took the decision to withhold their salaries as a disciplinary measure to reinforce accountability.
