Boudh, Odisha: The District Road Safety Committee meeting took place under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Bibhuti Bhushan Nayak at the conference room of the District Magistrate’s office. Regional Transport Officer Sushma Sahu welcomed everyone and presented a detailed report on the various steps the department has taken to prevent frequent accidents.
The District Magistrate expressed concern that the number of road accidents in the district continues to rise despite regular reviews and widespread awareness campaigns. District Security Officer Rahul Goyal and the DM criticized the National Highways Department for ignoring repairs of information boards and damaged stretches at accident-prone zones. The DM warned that the administration will take legal action against the department if it fails to fix the issues immediately.
Departments must now prepare cost estimates quickly for road repairs, solar lights, and signage installation. Data shows that six blackspots exist in the district, and officials must put up information boards there without delay.
In a key move, the police, regional transport, and national highways departments will inspect vehicles together to curb traffic violations. The DM also stressed the need for immediate medical help to accident victims.
During the meeting, four individuals who rescued and took the injured to hospitals on time received awards for their courage and quick action. The District Magistrate praised their efforts and encouraged citizens to act responsibly during emergencies. The health department must now inform the regional transport office directly about accident cases reported at hospitals.
All departmental officers joined the meeting, and Regional Transport Officer Sushma Sahu thanked everyone with a vote of thanks.
