PURI: As the nation gears up to celebrate the 79th Independence Day, the festive spirit is palpable across India. In Puri, world-renowned sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik has marked the occasion with breathtaking creations on the city’s iconic golden beach.
Using his signature sand art, Pattnaik sculpted an intricate installation featuring the message “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” alongside depictions of fighter jets, the tricolour, and the symbolic map of India. His artwork also incorporated the Operation Sindoor theme, highlighting the valour of the Indian armed forces. Scenes of aerial strikes against enemy targets were masterfully captured in sand, captivating onlookers and evoking patriotic pride.
The display has drawn large crowds of locals and tourists, all eager to witness the blend of artistry and national sentiment. Many visitors have been seen taking photographs and sharing them on social media, further amplifying the celebration.
In addition to his Independence Day tribute, Pattnaik also embraced the spiritual fervour of Janmashtami, which is being celebrated across India with immense joy. He sculpted a striking sand portrait of Lord Krishna, complete with symbolic elements of the festival, to extend greetings to the people of the country.
Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna, will be observed at midnight, with temples, towns, and villages across the nation already immersed in devotional festivities. From devotional songs to colourful decorations, the entire country is preparing for a night of spiritual celebration.
Pattnaik’s dual creations — one patriotic, the other spiritual — have once again proven his unmatched ability to blend art, culture, and social messaging. His work continues to make Puri Beach not just a tourist destination, but also a canvas for national pride and cultural heritage.
