Bhubaneswar, Odisha : The government took a major step to modernize Odisha’s infrastructure. A high-level meeting on the Puri district road network was held today. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and Law, Public Works & Rehabilitation Minister Prithwiraj Harichandan chaired the meeting. Officials outlined plans to improve connectivity between Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Konark, reduce travel time, and ease urban traffic.
The meeting focused on widening the existing Pipili-Konark road from 7 meters to 10 meters. Officials also approved a new 4-lane greenfield corridor. The corridor will span 40 km and measure 200 feet wide. Vehicles will travel at speeds up to 100 km/h, cutting travel time from Pipili to Konark from one and a half hours to 30 minutes. The project will boost tourism and improve access to the Sun Temple at Konark.
Officials discussed upgrading key roads in Puri city. Planned stretches include Taj International to Jagannath Stadium, Sri Chaitanya Road to Balasahi, Dolmandap Sahi, and Jhadeshwari Club to Medical Square. These upgrades will improve traffic flow and safety for residents and visitors.
The government emphasized that strengthening the Bhubaneswar-Puri-Konark corridor is a top priority. Leaders said the upgraded roads will stimulate economic growth, improve logistics, and boost tourism along the corridor.
Key officials present included Pipili MLA Ashrit Pattanayak, Chief Engineer Road 1 Dhyan Chand Nayak, Chief Engineer Road 2 Shivbrat Taria, Chief Construction Engineer (Khordha) Ramchandra Sethi, Additional Chief Engineer Rashmi Ranjan Sahu, and Executive Engineer Soumya Ranjan Dwivedi.
The meeting also finalized the corridor layout, planned land acquisition, and addressed technical requirements. Officials said these steps will ensure timely completion. Once finished, the Pipili-Konark green corridor will redefine travel, making transportation faster and more efficient.
The government aims to transform Puri and Konark into connected hubs. The new roads will provide safer, faster, and more convenient travel for residents and tourists. They will also reinforce the region’s position as a cultural and economic destination.
