Chandigarh : Punjab Police bust smuggling module operating between Canada and Pakistan, marking another major success in its ongoing crackdown on international weapon networks. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed the breakthrough on Tuesday.
The Amritsar Rural Police arrested Amarbir Singh, a resident of Dairiwal under Tarsikka police station, and seized six pistols, 11 magazines, 91 cartridges of .30 bore, and 20 cartridges of 9mm from his possession.
Investigators found that Amarbir had recently returned from Canada and maintained contact with Pakistan-based smugglers, according to DGP Yadav. Police registered an FIR and launched further investigations to trace other operatives and dismantle the entire cross-border network.
A day earlier, in an intelligence-led operation, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar and the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered a consignment of three weapons, including two AK-47 rifles and one PX5 Storm pistol, near the Indo-Pak border in Khemkaran, Tarn Taran.
Assistant Inspector General Sukhminder Singh Mann said the BSF had received information about the arrival of militant hardware. Acting swiftly, the joint team conducted a combing operation in Mehdipur village and recovered the weapons.
Authorities believe the weapons originated in Pakistan, and investigations continue to identify all suspects and eliminate the smuggling routes. The Punjab Police bust smuggling module operations remain ongoing to safeguard the state from cross-border threats.
