New Delhi : The Punjab ex-Minister grenade attack case has taken a significant turn, as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed chargesheets against four accused individuals. According to officials, the attack targeted the residence of former Punjab Minister Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar, Punjab, raising concerns about security for public leaders.
Specifically, the NIA identified two arrested individuals: Saidul Ameen from Amroha (Uttar Pradesh) and Abhijot Jangra from Kurukshetra (Haryana). Meanwhile, two others—Kulbir Singh Sidhu from Yamunanagar (Haryana) and Manish, also known as Kaka Rana, from Karnal (Haryana)—remain absconding.
In addition, authorities charged all four under multiple sections of the UA(P) Act, BNS, and Explosive Substances Act in case RC-/11/2025/NIA/DLI. This action reflects the agency’s commitment to pursuing the accused and preventing future attacks on political leaders.
The grenade attack on Kalia’s residence occurred on the night of April 7. Subsequently, the NIA assumed control of the investigation on April 12. Kulbir Singh, a known operative of the banned terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), conspired with Manish to form a terror gang. Together, they planned to target prominent leaders in Punjab, spread fear among the public, and raise funds for BKI through extortion, according to NIA sources.
Furthermore, Manish recruited Saidul Ameen, who carried out the grenade attack that night. Kulbir supplied the weapon, while Abhijot provided the necessary funds. Afterwards, Kulbir circulated a poster claiming responsibility alongside Manish. The authorities issued a red corner notice for Kulbir and announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for his arrest.
