Chandigarh : Punjab arms seizure along the Indo-Pak border led to the arrest of two smugglers and the recovery of a large cache of pistols and ammunition, the BSF and Punjab Police said.
The seizure follows one of the largest recent pistol recoveries, where authorities apprehended two smugglers and seized 27 pistols with ammunition in the Fazilka sector.
The latest operation, executed by the BSF intelligence wing in collaboration with the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Fazilka, took place in Theh Kalandar village. The team recovered 16 pistols, 38 magazines, 1,847 rounds, and a motorcycle, while arresting two smugglers.
BSF officials launched the operation after receiving intelligence about a potential smuggling attempt near the Fazilka border area.
“This operation dismantled a larger narco-terror plot originating from Pakistan and removed a serious threat to national security,” said a BSF spokesperson.
Earlier, the BSF and Punjab Police laid a strategic ambush near Mahar Khiwa Mansa village. After several hours of surveillance, the team noticed suspicious movement and apprehended one criminal, recovering 27 pistols, 54 magazines, and 470 rounds.
Interrogation of the first accused led to the arrest of his associate from the same village. The accused hail from Teja Rohella and Mahar Jamsher villages, respectively.
Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigations revealed the arms originated from Pakistan through a foreign-based entity and were intended for criminal gangs in the state. The arrested individuals were attempting to deliver these weapons to ground operatives under instructions from foreign handlers.
