Bhubaneswar, Odisha : It is a proud moment for Odisha as Poojaswini Nayak, an international wheelchair fencing player and national gold medalist from Gajapati district, has been selected to represent India at the prestigious 2025 Para Fencing World Championship to be held in Iksan-si, South Korea, from September 2 to 7.
Over the past five years, Ms. Nayak has brought immense glory to the state and the nation by winning 33 medals at the national level. Her consistent achievements have made her one of the most promising para-athletes from Odisha.
To support her international participation, the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) has extended financial assistance of ₹1,87,031 under the BBSY scheme for the purchase of FIE-approved wheelchair fencing equipment, which is not available locally but mandatory for global competitions.
The Odisha government reiterated its commitment to empowering para-athletes by ensuring they receive the necessary resources and opportunities to excel at the world stage.
Extending his best wishes, a state official said, “We are confident that Poojaswini Nayak will make both India and Odisha proud with her performance at the upcoming championship.”
