New Delhi : Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to police martyrs at the National Police Memorial on Tuesday, hailing personnel for their unwavering role in protecting society’s integrity on Police Commemoration Day 2025.
Police Commemoration Day marks the sacrifices of ten valiant officers who laid down their lives in 1959 during an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh. Since then, India observes this day every year to honor the courage and dedication of its police force, with Police Commemoration Day 2025 being no exception.
Addressing the personnel, Singh said, “This is the day to remember the supreme sacrifices made by our police and paramilitary forces. I pay my tributes to those who have fallen on the line of duty to protect our citizens.”
He stressed the mutual dependence between society and police, saying that a peaceful and progressive society thrives when security, justice, and trust are strong. “Police can serve effectively only when society cooperates and respects the law,” he added, referencing the spirit of Police Commemoration Day 2025.
Rajnath Singh highlighted that a country’s security has two pillars – external and internal. While the Armed Forces guard borders, the police maintain internal security in coordination with intelligence agencies.
“If the Armed Forces protect the country, the police protect society. Both are pillars of our nation’s security,” he said.
He also addressed modern challenges, noting that today’s crimes target not only life and property but also privacy, identity, and trust.
“The police fight both crime and perception. They uphold the law while maintaining public confidence, ensuring citizens feel safe day and night,” Singh said.
The Defence Minister concluded by emphasizing the importance of a balanced approach to internal and external security as India moves toward Amritkaal and Viksit Bharat 2047, celebrating the synergy between the police, Armed Forces, and society, especially highlighted on Police Commemoration Day 2025.
