New Delhi : PM Modi to visit Uttarakhand today to review the devastation caused by the relentless monsoon that has battered almost every district of the hill state. The visit comes as cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods continue to disrupt life and infrastructure in the region.
PM Modi will land in Dehradun on Thursday evening. At 4:15 p.m., he will conduct an aerial survey of the flood-hit regions to personally assess the scale of damage. At 5 p.m., he will chair a high-level review meeting with state and central officials to track the progress of relief and rehabilitation measures. Officials have made elaborate security arrangements ahead of his arrival.
For the past two months, Uttarakhand has battled severe monsoon-triggered disasters. Heavy rainfall in August and September alone caused losses worth over Rs 5,000 crore. Roads, schools, and power lines suffered massive damage, disrupting life across multiple districts. By early September, floods and landslides had claimed more than 80 lives, left nearly 100 missing, and injured thousands.
A central team already visited Uttarakhand last month to assess the situation and coordinate relief. PM Modi’s visit aims to speed up assistance and push for faster rehabilitation in the affected areas.
Earlier this week, PM Modi toured Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to inspect other disaster-hit regions and directed officials to intensify rescue operations.
Before heading to Uttarakhand, PM Modi will welcome Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam in Varanasi at 11:30 a.m. Both leaders will hold a high-level bilateral meeting that highlights the India-Mauritius strategic partnership. Their talks will focus on renewable energy, healthcare, education, digital infrastructure, and the blue economy. The meeting will also showcase the civilisational and spiritual ties linking the two nations.
The discussions build on PM Modi’s March visit to Mauritius, when both countries elevated their relationship to an ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership’.
Through his engagements today, PM Modi will balance domestic disaster management with strengthening global partnerships, sending a strong message about India’s resilience and diplomacy.
