Tianjin : Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a series of high-level meetings with several world leaders on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral ties, trade, defence, culture, and regional cooperation.
PM Modi met Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, exchanging perspectives on diverse issues. He described the conversation as constructive in strengthening mutual understanding.
During his meeting with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Modi emphasized the dynamic partnership between the two countries, highlighting collaborations in culture, economy, and people-to-people ties. He also held a “very productive conversation” with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, noting the robust partnership and potential to boost developmental cooperation.
Modi met Laos President Thongloun Sisoulith, describing the closer ties as mutually beneficial, especially in trade and cultural exchanges. Discussions with Armenian President Nikol Pashinyan focused on the warm and growing relationship between India and Armenia.
In his meetings with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon, PM Modi highlighted India’s willingness to deepen ties in defence, green energy, trade, and cultural sectors.
He also interacted with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, and Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli, emphasizing India’s commitment to long-term development cooperation, trade partnerships, and regional stability.
The SCO Summit in Tianjin serves as a platform for member nations to discuss regional security, economic growth, and multilateral collaboration. Modi’s engagements reflect India’s active role in strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations across Asia and beyond.
Earlier, PM Modi was welcomed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan at the official SCO reception for Heads of State and Government, marking the beginning of the high-profile summit.
