Patna : PM Modi Purnea Airport inauguration will take place on September 15 during his visit to Bihar, where he will also launch development projects worth around ₹36,000 crore. The Prime Minister will address a massive rally in Purnea as part of the visit.
The airport will become Bihar’s fourth operational commercial airport after Patna, Gaya, and Darbhanga. Modi will inaugurate the Interim Terminal Building at the new Civil Enclave, which will boost passenger handling capacity in northeastern Bihar.
As part of his connectivity push, Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Bikramshila–Katareah rail line (₹2,170 crore), creating a direct link across Seemanchal and Bhagalpur. He will also inaugurate the Araria–Galgalia (Thakurganj) rail line (₹4,410 crore) and flag off new train services, including the Jogbani–Danapur Vande Bharat Express and Amrit Bharat Express routes between Saharsa–Chheharta (Amritsar) and Jogbani–Erode. These services will improve access across districts like Purnea, Saharsa, Khagaria, Muzaffarpur, and Patna, while linking Bihar to Punjab and Tamil Nadu.
The Prime Minister will launch the National Makhana Board in Bihar to promote production, boost exports, and enhance branding. Bihar contributes nearly 90% of India’s makhana output, and districts such as Madhubani, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Katihar, Supaul, and Kishanganj will benefit directly.
In Bhagalpur, Modi will lay the foundation stone of a 3×800 MW thermal power project at Pirpainti, Bihar’s largest private investment of ₹25,000 crore. Built with ultra-supercritical low-emission technology, the project will strengthen power supply and energy security in the state.

To support dairy farmers, Modi will inaugurate eastern India’s first Sex-Sorted Semen Facility in Purnea under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission. The facility will produce 5 lakh doses annually, helping farmers secure higher female calf births and increase incomes.
The Prime Minister will also participate in Griha Pravesh ceremonies for 35,000 rural and 5,920 urban PMAY beneficiaries, handing over keys to some recipients. Additionally, he will distribute ₹500 crore in Community Investment Funds to self-help groups under DAY-NRLM, empowering women-led federations and rural livelihoods.
