Imphal : In a major step to foster peace, progress, and stability in the violence-hit state, PM Modi Manipur visit today will see the Prime Minister inaugurate 31 projects worth Rs 8,500 crore. The state has faced ethnic violence since May 2023, and the Prime Minister’s visit aims to boost morale and demonstrate the government’s commitment to affected communities.
Manipur Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel said that during his visit, PM Modi will meet Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in relief camps across Churachandpur and Imphal, and address public gatherings in both districts. “The Prime Minister’s initiatives reflect the central government’s focus on restoring peace and accelerating development across Manipur,” Goel said.
Senior police officials confirmed that authorities have set up extensive security arrangements in Imphal West, Imphal East, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, and neighboring districts. Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding of Spear Corps, personally reviewed security measures, including forward areas along the India-Myanmar border, to ensure the safety of the Prime Minister and the public.
The Prime Minister will lay foundation stones for development projects worth Rs 7,300 crore at Peace Ground in Churachandpur and inaugurate infrastructure projects totaling Rs 1,200 crore at Kangla Fort in Imphal. These projects cover healthcare, education, transportation, and urban infrastructure, aiming to revitalize communities affected by ethnic violence.
The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), representing the Kuki-Zo tribal community, warmly welcomed the Prime Minister’s visit and highlighted its significance for reconciliation and engagement. “We hope this visit will open a new chapter of recognition and inclusion for the Kuki-Zo community. We urge everyone to participate in large numbers dressed in traditional attire to welcome the Prime Minister and showcase our unity and resilience,” KZC Secretary Ginza Vualzong said.
After arriving from Aizawl, Mizoram, PM Modi will first visit relief camps in Churachandpur to meet IDPs and understand their concerns. He will then proceed to Peace Ground to lay foundation stones for new infrastructure projects and address public gatherings. Later, he will arrive at Kangla Fort in Imphal, inaugurate additional developmental projects, and interact with more IDPs.
Chief Secretary Goel emphasized that these initiatives demonstrate the government’s ongoing commitment to the state’s progress and welfare. “Manipur is not only a border state but also a key pillar of India’s ‘Act East Policy’ and a gateway to Southeast Asia. The Prime Minister’s visit underlines the central government’s focus on restoring peace, normalcy, and accelerating development,” he said.
BJP leaders, including Northeast in-charge Sambit Patra, former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, and Rajya Sabha member Ajeet Gopchade, coordinated with local MLAs to ensure smooth execution of the Prime Minister’s visit. They urged citizens to participate actively under the slogan: “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,” reinforcing public engagement in state development.
Meanwhile, the opposition Congress criticized the visit as symbolic. State Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh said that citizens expected a concrete roadmap for peace, rehabilitation, and justice, not ceremonial inaugurations. “So far, BJP has offered only empty words, leaving the people of Manipur in despair,” Singh said in a video message.
The Prime Minister’s engagements in Manipur today will provide relief to violence-affected communities, strengthen the state’s infrastructure, and promote socio-economic development. Analysts believe that the combination of welfare initiatives, IDP interactions, and large-scale infrastructure projects could pave the way for long-term stability and prosperity in the state.
