Originally planned in Berhampur, Odisha, the venue was shifted to Jharsuguda due to adverse weather forecasts. All eyes are on the Prime Minister’s announcements across infrastructure, healthcare, education, and youth welfare sectors.
Amidst upcoming Nuapada By-election Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jharsuguda has intensified state Poltics. PM Modi will address a public meeting in Jharsuguda on Saturday. All eyes are on a series of expected announcements that could reshape infrastructure, health, education, and youth welfare in Odisha and beyond.
The sad demise of BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia in Nuapada necessitated a by-election, which will take place soon.This will be the first by-election in Odisha for the BJP since it formed a government in the state. Therefore, the BJP is preparing its election strategy to win the seat.
Political Expert Opines that the venue move is also significant because of the upcoming Nuapada Assembly by-election, and the BJP’s desire to consolidate its footing in western Odisha. Political experts consider Jharsuguda a stronghold, with youth making up a large share of the electorate.
At the heart of the Prime Minister’s Dussehra gift are a slew of railway projects.PM Modi to inaugurate or lay the foundation for multiple projects, with total investment estimates around ₹1,700 crore. These span railways, healthcare, education, and social welfare, reflecting a multi-dimensional approach to development.
During the visit, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay foundations for rail projects worth about ₹1,700 crore, including railway line doubling, flyover works, and the launch of the Berhampur‐Udhna Amrit Bharat Express. Additional announcements likely include upgrading major medical colleges (MKCG and VIMSAR) to super-specialty status, expansion of IIT capacity, roll-out of national skill programmes, aid to Antyodaya beneficiaries, and other youth-oriented schemes under the Seva Parv / Yuva Sabha initiatives.
Railway projects appear to be the centerpiece of this visit:Doubling of the Koraput-Baiguda section (34 km).Expansion of Manabar-Koraput-Gorapur (82 km).Construction of the Sambalpur City-Sarla flyover, a 5 km stretch costing ~ ₹273 crore. Flagging off the Amrit Bharat Express connecting Berhampur (Odisha) to Udhna (Surat, Gujarat).
Various other enhancements to rail connectivity, particularly targeting mineral transportation efficiency and freight movement.
Under the Seva Parv framework, PM Modi may also unveil schemes to support marginalized communities. Assistance for Antyodaya beneficiaries, approximately 50,000 individuals.Initiatives in public service, health, sanitation, and rural infrastructure.
Apart from the projects PM may announce New schemes specifically for youth entrepreneurship, Tourism and cultural infrastructure development, promoting local heritage. More district-level or rural infrastructure investments. Expansion of digital services in rural areas etc.
