New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Himachal, Punjab today to review flood situation and assess the ongoing disaster response after severe monsoon-triggered floods and landslides wreaked havoc across northern India.
According to official sources, PM Modi will land in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, around 1:30 p.m., where he is expected to conduct an aerial survey of the worst-hit areas, subject to weather conditions.
Later in the day, he will chair a high-level review meeting in Dharamshala, attended by senior state officials, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local rescue groups including Aapda Mitra volunteers. The Prime Minister will also interact with disaster victims to personally assess their concerns.
Following his Himachal visit, PM Modi will reach Gurdaspur, Punjab, around 4:15 p.m., after conducting another aerial survey of flood-hit regions.
In Gurdaspur, the Prime Minister will hold ground-level review discussions with administrative and disaster management officials and meet with local residents impacted by the floods.
The BJP said the visit reflects PM Modi’s commitment to “closely monitor relief and rehabilitation efforts” and to ensure “all necessary central support” for affected communities.
However, politics has heated up ahead of the visit. Punjab Cabinet Minister and AAP State President Aman Arora criticized the trip as “mere flood tourism,” demanding a ₹20,000 crore relief package. He also pressed for the release of ₹60,000 crore in pending funds, including ₹50,000 crore GST compensation and ₹8,000 crore Rural and Market Development Funds.
Arora pointed out that Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has already written multiple times to the Centre, requesting urgent financial aid to rebuild damaged infrastructure and provide relief to flood-hit families.
