Tokyo : PM Modi global peace earned high praise on Saturday as Hiroshima atomic bomb survivors lauded him for his steadfast advocacy of world harmony and his philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. Moreover, the Japanese NGO Peace Culture Village honoured him with a citation recognizing his significant contributions.
The recognition took place during the observance of Vishwa Seva Pakhwada 2025 in Japan. Additionally, a delegation of Indian diaspora groups in Japan celebrated Prime Minister Modi’s 75th birthday while also paying tribute to the victims on the 80th anniversary of the atomic attacks. The delegation included Rajya Sabha MP and convener Satnam Singh Sandhu, co-founder Prof Himani Sood, and other prominent members of the Indian community residing in Japan.
Meanwhile, Toshiko Tanaka, a member of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning group Nihon Hidankyo of atomic bomb survivors, and Kenta Sumioka, a third-generation atomic bomb survivor and Managing Director of Peace Culture Village, attended the ceremony alongside the delegation.
Furthermore, the citation, signed by Tanaka and Sumioka, acknowledged Prime Minister Modi’s tireless efforts to promote global peace and hailed him as a consistent and principled voice for harmony. It emphasised that his leadership demonstrates humanity’s greatest strength lies in dialogue, cooperation, and collective responsibility to achieve a future free of nuclear weapons.
In addition, the citation recognised PM Modi’s initiatives for nuclear restraint, his acts of remembrance that honour victims, and his efforts to inspire younger generations to reject nuclear conflict. It also highlighted India’s adherence to no-first-use policies, credible minimum deterrence, voluntary moratorium on nuclear testing, and promotion of ethical guidance in science and youth exchanges.
Reflecting on his experiences, Tanaka said, “I was over six during the atomic attack in Hiroshima. I lost all my school friends and survived alone. PM Modi’s commitment to work with Japan for global peace inspires me deeply. Indeed, India’s policies on nuclear restraint provide an important example for the world.”
Similarly, Sumioka added, “I grew up listening to my grandmother’s accounts of the bombing. Now, I run an NGO in Hiroshima providing peace education. I firmly believe countries must cooperate, and India holds a crucial role in shaping global peace. Consequently, I look forward to collaborating with PM Modi and the Indian people towards this vision.”
Finally, Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu remarked, “The world recognises PM Modi as a global ambassador of peace. His leadership strengthens India’s international image and showcases the nation’s commitment to harmony. Moreover, embracing the true essence of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam can help resolve contemporary conflicts and promote global unity.”
