New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a two-day visit to Assam, Manipur, and Mizoram on Saturday, launching a series of development projects.
He will first land in Mizoram’s capital Aizawl to inaugurate the 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway project, which connects Aizawl to the national railway network. With this, Aizawl becomes the fourth capital city in the Northeast to get rail connectivity after Guwahati, Agartala, and Itanagar.
PM Modi, along with central ministers, will flag off three new train services linking Aizawl with Delhi, Guwahati, and Kolkata. The services include the Sairang-Anand Vihar (Delhi) Rajdhani Express (weekly), the Kolkata-Sairang-Kolkata Express (tri-weekly), and the Guwahati-Sairang-Guwahati Express (daily). He will also address public gatherings.
From Aizawl, the Prime Minister will travel to Manipur, marking his first visit to the state since the ethnic violence of May 2023. He will address meetings in Churachandpur and Imphal, where he will unveil projects worth ₹8,500 crore. From Peace Ground in Churachandpur, he will lay foundation stones for ₹7,300 crore worth of projects, while in Imphal’s historic Kangla Fort he will launch infrastructure projects valued at ₹1,200 crore. Modi is also expected to meet local MLAs, community leaders, and civil society groups.
Ahead of the visit, Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, GOC of Spear Corps, toured Churachandpur and nearby districts to review the security situation, including forward areas along the India-Myanmar border.
After Manipur, Modi will head to Guwahati for a two-day visit to Assam. On September 13, he will inaugurate the birth centenary celebrations of cultural icon and Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika. The next day, he will unveil projects worth over ₹19,000 crore across Assam.
In Darrang district, he will lay the foundation stone for Darrang Medical College and associated nursing and GNM schools, with a combined investment of ₹567 crore. Modi will also initiate the ₹7,000 crore Narengi-Kuruwa bridge and Guwahati Ring Road project, which will link Kamrup and Darrang districts in Assam with Ri Bhoi in Meghalaya.
Later, he will visit the Numaligarh refinery in Golaghat district to inaugurate a bamboo-based ethanol plant worth over ₹5,000 crore. He will also lay the foundation for a Petro Fluidised Catalytic Cracker Unit, with investments exceeding ₹7,000 crore.
