New Delhi : In line with his vision of modern, world-class urban infrastructure, the Prime Minister will inaugurate multiple PM Kolkata Projects worth over Rs 5,200 crore. These include metro rail expansions, road development initiatives, and enhanced commuter connectivity, aimed at transforming Kolkata’s urban transport landscape.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate metro services on a newly constructed 13.61 km metro network, marking a significant milestone in the city’s public transport development. He will visit Jessore Road Metro Station to flag off the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar metro service, which will greatly improve access to Kolkata’s airport and reduce commute times for travelers. Additionally, through video conferencing, he will inaugurate the Sealdah–Esplanade and Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay metro sections. The Sealdah–Esplanade metro service will cut travel time from nearly 40 minutes to just 11 minutes, while the Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay section will enhance connectivity with the city’s IT and business hubs.
At the public function, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate a newly constructed subway at Howrah Metro Station, benefiting thousands of daily commuters and connecting some of Kolkata’s busiest areas. These metro expansions are expected to strengthen multimodal transport, reduce traffic congestion, and provide faster, safer, and more convenient commuting options.
In addition to metro projects, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the 7.2 km six-lane elevated Kona Expressway, worth over Rs 1,200 crore. This expressway will enhance connectivity between Howrah, surrounding rural areas, and Kolkata, saving hours of travel time while boosting trade, commerce, and tourism in the region.
Together, these projects will significantly improve Kolkata’s urban mobility, reinforce infrastructure development, and benefit lakhs of daily commuters. The initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to creating a modern, well-connected city with efficient transportation networks.
