Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) has taken a big step towards promoting employee well-being and community engagement. They did so with the foundation stone laying of its “OPTCL Sports Arena,” a modern multi-sport facility. The OPTCL Sports Arena Bhubaneswar is designed to boost fitness, recreation, and sports excellence.

The foundation stone was laid on October 23, 2025, by Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha for Energy and Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment. This event was in the presence of Shri Suryabanshi Suraj, Minister for Sports & Youth Services, Higher Education, and Odia Language, Literature & Culture.

The ₹15 crore project, fully funded through OPTCL’s internal resources, will transform a section of the OPTCL Colony at Bhoinagar, Unit-9, Bhubaneswar, into a world-class sports hub. The OPTCL Sports Arena Bhubaneswar will span 8,225 sqm (2.03 acres) and include a badminton court. Additionally, it will feature a tennis court and volleyball court. In addition, it will have an Olympic-standard swimming pool, jogging track, landscaped gardens, advanced lighting, and security systems. There will also be comfortable seating for fitness and recreation.

Shri Singh Deo said, “The OPTCL Sports Arena reflects our commitment to nurturing the holistic well-being of employees while extending health and fitness benefits to the larger community. A healthy workforce is the key to a productive organization.”

OPTCL, a backbone of Odisha’s power sector, continues to strengthen the state’s transmission network. It promotes employee welfare and work-life balance. Shri Suryabanshi Suraj added,

“The OPTCL Sports Arena Bhubaneswar is a testament to OPTCL’s commitment to building a healthy, active, and community-oriented workplace. It also drives innovation in the power sector.”

With over 2,700 employees and support for 300 families in its residential colony, OPTCL is setting new benchmarks. It excels not only in power infrastructure but also in employee wellness and holistic development.

The event also saw the presence of former MLA Shri Priyadarshi Mishra. Additionally, Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Energy & Electronics & IT Department, attended. Other notable attendees were Shri Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, CMD, OPTCL, social worker Shri Jagannath Pradhan, and other senior officials and dignitaries from Odisha’s power sector.

The OPTCL Sports Arena promises to become a landmark for fitness, recreation, and community engagement in Bhubaneswar. In conclusion, the OPTCL Sports Arena Bhubaneswar sets a new standard for employee-centric initiatives in Odisha.
