Cuttack, Odisha : Odisha Vigilance on Saturday apprehended Prasanna Kumar Mohali, Sub-Inspector of Police at Subarnapur Outpost under Banki PS in Cuttack district, while accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from a brick factory owner.
According to official sources, the complainant’s brick factory had been set ablaze by unidentified miscreants. To claim insurance compensation, he required a certified copy of the FIR and the seizure list related to the case. Despite repeated requests, SI Mohali allegedly refused to provide the documents unless he was paid a bribe of ₹20,000.
With no alternative left, the complainant approached Vigilance officials and narrated his ordeal. Acting promptly, a trap was laid, and Mohali was caught red-handed while receiving the bribe money from the complainant. The entire bribe amount of ₹20,000 was recovered and seized from his possession in the presence of witnesses.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches were launched at three locations linked to Mohali on suspicion of disproportionate assets. Officials confirmed that the searches are continuing.
A case has been registered against Mohali at the Cuttack Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 27 dated 05.09.2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation is underway, and further details are awaited.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against public servants indulging in corrupt practices. The vigilance wing has urged citizens to report any instances of bribery or harassment to ensure transparent and accountable governance in Odisha.
