Jeypore, Koraput, Odisha: In a major Odisha Vigilance Bribery Case, Sri Harischandra Mohapatra, Peon, O/O Spl. Treasury, Jeypore, Dist-Koraput, demanded and took Rs.47,000/-. This was the second and final installment. The total demand was Rs.87,000/- from the widow of a deceased government employee. He sought the bribe to facilitate the release of arrear pension amounting to Rs.3,48,000/- in her favor.
Earlier, Sri Mohapatra took Rs.40,000/- as the first installment. He continued pressuring the complainant for the remaining Rs.47,000/-. He threatened her that he would block her pension from September 2025 unless she paid the full bribe. After receiving harassment, the complainant approached Odisha Vigilance, prompting them to act immediately.
A team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed Sri Mohapatra today while he accepted the Rs.47,000/- bribe. They recovered and seized the entire amount. Investigators are simultaneously searching two locations connected to the accused from a DA angle.
Koraput Vigilance PS Case No.32 dtd.24.10.2025 u/s.7 P.C (Amendment) Act, 2018 registered against Sri Mohapatra. Officials continue their investigation actively.
