Angul, Odisha : In a significant anti-corruption action, Odisha Vigilance apprehended Sri Biswanath Das, Village Agriculture Worker (VAW) under Kishorenagar Block, Angul, while taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an empanelled government NGO. The bribe was demanded to countersign Utilization Certificates (UCs) related to the distribution of seeds and pesticides to farmers.
Sri Das, who was a member of the distribution group, allegedly asked the NGO to pay Rs 20,000 for clearance of the UCs and subsequent release of funds. Left with no recourse, the complainant immediately reported the matter to Vigilance authorities. Acting swiftly, the Odisha Vigilance team conducted a trap and caught Sri Das red-handed, recovering the full bribe amount from his exclusive possession.
Following the apprehension, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two of Sri Das’ locations in connection with the case from the Department of Agriculture angle.
In this regard, Cuttack Vigilance has registered PS Case No.28 dated 08.09.2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigations are currently underway to ascertain further details of the irregularities.
This action highlights Odisha Vigilance’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption in government schemes and ensure transparency in agricultural support programs for farmers.
