Bhubaneswar, Odisha : A state-level review meeting of the Rural Development Department was held today at the EIC Office in Bhubaneswar under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Minister Shri Rabi Narayan Naik. The meeting reviewed the progress of all 60 divisions and focused on timely completion and quality execution of projects.
The Minister appreciated Odisha’s strong performance under PMGSY-4 at the national level, particularly in districts like Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada where road projects have been completed in saturation mode. At the same time, he warned officials that any delay or negligence would lead to salary deductions and departmental action.
Under the Mukhyamantri Sadak Yojana (MMSY), the department has set an ambitious target of constructing 5,000 km of rural roads across 521 projects during the financial year 2025–26. Additionally, the Setu Bandhan Yojana will oversee the construction of 400 bridges, while 253 new government buildings are also in progress.
The Minister expressed satisfaction over progress in several districts but firmly directed underperforming divisions to take corrective measures. He stressed the need for monthly targets and strict monitoring to ensure accountability at every stage of construction. A dedicated regional monitoring team will be set up to track delayed projects and ensure timely execution.
Looking ahead, Shri Naik highlighted the state’s long-term goal of building 30,000 km of rural roads and 500 bridges within the next five years under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi. He said that with proper budget allocations in place, rural development remains a top priority for the government, aiming to improve connectivity and uplift rural livelihoods across Odisha.
