Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Odisha Police has achieved a major breakthrough under its special drive ‘Operation Garuda’, launched last week on the directives of the DGP to crack down on criminal elements across the state.
In a massive enforcement push, 3,190 accused in non-bailable cases have been arrested and produced before court, while 298 individuals voluntarily surrendered. Using CCTV surveillance, district SPs successfully tracked down several wanted offenders.
The crackdown also targeted illegal liquor and narcotics. Police seized 17,000 litres of liquor in 890 excise cases and recovered 1,300 bottles of cough syrup from Sambalpur. In arms-related offences, 51 illegal firearms were confiscated, along with ₹1.5 lakh in cash, leading to the arrest of a suspect from Bihar.
Under the NDPS Act, 11 cases were registered, and in gambling-related raids, authorities seized ₹2.8 lakh. Additionally, 115 bootleggers were caught, and 129 wanted criminals were apprehended.
ADG (Law & Order) Sanjay Kumar confirmed that Operation Garuda will be intensified further in the coming days to maintain strict law and order across Odisha.
