Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Odisha plantation record single day was set on September 17, 2025, when around 1.5 crore saplings were planted in just 12 hours. This unprecedented achievement showcased the state’s commitment to environmental conservation and engaged citizens, government departments, and organizations in a massive drive for a greener Odisha. Sundergarh district led the effort, planting over 14 lakh saplings, highlighting the scale and coordination of this historic plantation campaign.
When united by purpose, Odisha’s citizens can surpass even the loftiest goals. From building the iconic Konark Sun Temple to setting a world record in environmental activism, they once again demonstrated their extraordinary potential. September 17, 2025, will be remembered globally as a day when planting saplings became a magnificent movement of hope.
The event ran under the banner of “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam – 2.0,” celebrating Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday. Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi called citizens to plant 75 lakh saplings between sunrise and sunset. People responded enthusiastically, planting around 1.5 crore saplings in half a day, far surpassing the target.
By 4.30 PM, Odisha not only achieved the target but also set new world records. Government departments, voluntary organizations, schools, students, and countless citizens contributed tirelessly. Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Shri Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia praised the effort. He said Odisha turns pledges into flourishing forests, hope into shade, and activism into enduring life.
Previously, Madhya Pradesh held the record with 11 lakh saplings in one day, and Assam with 9.26 lakh. Odisha’s effort now sets a new humanitarian benchmark that will inspire generations.
Minister Singkhuntia emphasized that the vision matters more than numbers. The goal is a cleaner, greener, more beautiful, prosperous, and self-reliant Odisha for future generations.
By 4.30 PM, people planted 1,49,11,339 seedlings across 30 districts. Volunteers worked at 71,924 sites, marking a major step toward afforestation and ecological restoration.
Sundargarh led with 14,21,618 seedlings. Koraput followed with 11,01,624 seedlings, and Keonjhar with 10,42,927. Mayurbhanj and Kalahandi planted 9,17,659 and 7,67,510 respectively. Deogarh recorded the least with 1,31,885 seedlings.
