Bhubaneswar, Odisha : In response to the escalating crime rates across the state, the Odisha government has called for immediate action. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has scheduled an important meeting today at 3 PM at the Lok Seva Bhavan to discuss urgent measures. The meeting will be attended by key officials, including the Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, Crime Branch DIG Binay Tosh Mishra, and the DIG of the Anti-Gang Unit.
The Chief Minister has instructed the DGP to provide detailed data on the state’s crime trends over the past year, with a particular focus on rising criminal activities. In addition, the Crime Branch and Anti-Gang Unit heads are expected to present vital information for a thorough review of the situation.
The review meeting is set to be a comprehensive assessment of crime control measures and law enforcement capabilities. It is anticipated that a clear roadmap for combating crime will be outlined, followed by the development of a strategic action plan.
In recent days, the state has witnessed a surge in serious crimes, including sexual assaults, thefts, and snatching incidents. Notable cases such as the Gopalpur gang rape, the self-immolation of an F.M. college student in Balasore, and the tragic death of a student in Kendrapara due to police negligence have drawn widespread public criticism.
