Bhubaneswar, Odisha : The Odisha Gotipua Dance Festival, held at the Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra Odissi Research Centre, continued its second day on Sunday, captivating audiences with mesmerizing performances of classical Gotipua dance. The three-day festival, which began on August 30 and will conclude on September 1, features 20 distinguished dance troupes from across the state.
The day’s event was graced by Padma Shri awardees Shyamamani Devi, Priyambada Hajemadi, along with renowned dancers Sikta Das and researcher Kirtan Narayan Padhi. A panel discussion on “Origin and Development of Gotipua” was also organized to provide insights into the rich cultural heritage of the dance form.
Performances included traditional repertoires such as Guru Bandhana, Manglacharan, Dashavatar, Bandhan Nrutya, and Panchadev Stuti, which enthralled audiences with their intricate choreography, vibrant costumes, and devotional expression.
Prominent troupes performing today included Aradhana Dance Academy, Guru Maguni Jena Gotipua Nrutya Parishad, Jayadev Gotipua Odissi Dance Institution, Shiva-Parvati Gotipua Nrutya Parishad, Jay Ma Singh Bahini, Srushti Foundation Trust, and Narayani Gotipua Kalaparishad. These groups showcased a blend of traditional techniques and innovative presentation, highlighting the vitality and evolution of Gotipua dance.
The festival was administered by Shuchismita Mantri, Deputy Director of the Department of Odia Language, Literature, and Culture, along with the administrative team of the Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra Odissi Research Centre.
Organizers emphasized that the festival not only promotes the classical art form but also provides a platform for young dancers to hone their skills, ensuring that the tradition of Gotipua continues to thrive for future generations.
Audiences were left spellbound by the devotion, rhythm, and energy of the performances, making the festival a celebration of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage and a testament to the enduring legacy of classical dance in the state.
