Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati conducted a comprehensive review of the recent flood situation across the state, emphasizing the importance of vigilance to ensure zero casualties. The meeting, held at Raj Bhavan, assessed the current conditions in flood-affected districts and evaluated the state’s ongoing disaster management measures.

Governor Kambhampati praised the Odisha Government’s proactive steps in flood preparedness, including efficient relief operations and timely assistance to affected residents. He stressed that safeguarding lives remains the government’s top priority and urged authorities to remain alert during potential flood threats.

The review was attended by Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Additional Chief Secretary & Relief Commissioner Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh, and senior officials from the Water Resources Department, including the Chief Engineer and Chief Secretary representatives. District officials briefed the Governor on the situation in Baleswar, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh, including preventive measures, river conditions, relief arrangements, and emergency response plans.

The Governor highlighted the need for constructing barrages and proper water management systems to divert excess floodwater safely, ensuring both flood mitigation and irrigation support. He emphasized long-term flood management strategies such as interlinking rivers and water systems to reduce flood risks, enhance water distribution, and maintain groundwater levels, thereby ensuring a reliable supply of drinking water.

Governor Kambhampati called for detailed studies on interlinking river networks and formulation of an integrated flood management strategy for the state. Minister Pujari commended the readiness of the Revenue & Disaster Management Department and lauded the dedication of officials and field staff in tackling emergencies efficiently.

The meeting concluded with a renewed focus on citizen safety, strengthening disaster response infrastructure, and ensuring proactive monitoring in flood-prone areas across Odisha.
