Bhubaneswar, Odisha : On the ninth day of the ongoing Enforcement Special Drive in Odisha, excise officials achieved major breakthroughs in their fight against illicit trade and narcotics. Authorities seized contraband items worth ₹1.76 crore on Tuesday, making it one of the most impactful days of the statewide campaign so far.
According to official data, 281 cases were detected, leading to the arrest of 182 individuals for their involvement in unlawful activities. Enforcement teams also seized 12,596 bulk litres (BL) of illicitly distilled liquor and 535 BL of duty-paid liquor. To cripple the production chain, nearly 1,03,880 litres of illicit wash were destroyed. In addition, 16 vehicles suspected of aiding smuggling and illegal transportation were impounded.
The crackdown extended to narcotics under the NDPS Act, where seven cases were booked. This resulted in the seizure of 353 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) and 478 grams of heroin, marking a significant success against drug peddlers.
Officials stated that the special enforcement initiative is designed to tighten the grip on contraband circulation, dismantle illegal supply chains, and promote transparency in enforcement. They assured that the campaign will continue with greater intensity in the coming days, ensuring offenders face strict legal consequences.
The Enforcement Special Drive has been hailed as a robust step towards safeguarding communities from the menace of illicit liquor and narcotics, reflecting the government’s firm stance on curbing illegal activities at their roots.
