Bhubaneswar, Odisha : The foundation stone of the expanded Odisha Assembly Guest House at Unit-4 in Bhubaneswar has been laid. The ceremony was led by Assembly Speaker Surama Padhi and Deputy Speaker Bhavani Shankar Bhoi, in the presence of Assembly Secretary Satyabrata Raut and other senior officials.
The old Guest House, with 23 rooms, has faced space shortages over the years, making expansion a necessity. The newly planned three-storey extension will add 16 modern rooms to meet growing accommodation demands. Once completed, the total number of rooms in the old facility will increase to 39, significantly improving the housing capacity for visiting legislators and dignitaries.
The project is estimated to cost ₹3.8 crore and will cover over 9,000 sq ft of built-up area. The construction is targeted for completion by March 31, 2026, with strict timelines set to ensure timely delivery. The new structure will be equipped with lifts and designed with better space utilization, ensuring convenience for all guests.
The combined accommodation strength of the old Guest House and the newly built Guest House near the OMC office will rise to 57 rooms once the expansion is complete. Officials believe this will be more than adequate to handle the growing requirements of legislators, former MLAs, and dignitaries visiting Bhubaneswar.
For improved accessibility, the Odisha Assembly has also planned to introduce an online booking system for the Guest House. In addition, round-the-clock security arrangements will be enhanced, ensuring a safe and comfortable stay for all residents.
The expansion project is expected to create a blend of modern amenities with legislative tradition, reflecting the Assembly’s commitment to serving its members and guests better. Senior officers and staff present at the ceremony welcomed the move as a landmark step in strengthening infrastructure in the state capital.
