Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Ending weeks of speculation, BJD has fielded senior leader and state women wing president Snehangini Chhuria as its candidate for the upcoming Nuapada bypoll. This decision to play the Nuapada Bypoll BJD women card reflects a special strategy and careful political calculation aimed at balancing the party’s image while addressing regional factors.

There has been much discussion about why the party chose Snehangini as its candidate. Political analysts suggest that after Jay Dholakia joined BJP, BJD sought a candidate who could manage sympathy votes and effectively counter his influence. The Nuapada Bypoll BJD women card is widely seen as a strategic move in this context.

Snehangini Chhuria is a well-known woman leader in Western Odisha with extensive political experience. She previously served as MLA from Attabira constituency in Bargarh district twice and held ministerial portfolios during the BJD regime. Her nomination is expected to strengthen the party’s image and help retain the seat, underscoring the Nuapada Bypoll BJD women card strategy.

By nominating Snehangini, BJD has clearly played the women card, signaling its pro-women stance. Additionally, as she belongs to the SC community, the party aims to reinforce community votes while highlighting Snehangini’s strong leadership and appeal among women voters. This step is integral to the Nuapada Bypoll BJD women card approach.

Coming from Bargarh, Snehangini’s candidature is also expected to garner support across Western Odisha. As a seasoned politician, she can highlight the party’s work for women, SCs, and people with low income, further solidifying voter confidence.

With careful calculation, BJD has chosen Snehangini Chhuria to retain the Nuapada seat while sending a broader message that the party’s strength does not depend on any single individual.
