Bhubaneswar, Odisha : The Nuapada By-Election 2025 has transformed the region into a buzzing hub of political activity. From the bustling weekly markets to the dusty village paths, villagers fill the air with conversations about candidates and promises.
For decades, people have faced struggles in Nuapada—workers migrate to other states, irrigation facilities remain scarce, healthcare infrastructure stays poor, and educational opportunities are limited. Yet, this election has infused a sense of optimism among villagers, who see the democratic exercise as a chance to push their issues to the forefront.
While the contest has drawn the attention of state-level leaders, it is the local issues that dominate conversations here. Farmers, who form the backbone of Nuapada’s economy, are raising demands for better irrigation facilities, more cold storage units, and timely procurement of paddy. Healthcare and education have also emerged as key topics.
For the residents of Nuapada, the by-election is more than a political event—it gives them a chance to make their voices heard.
The Election Commission is making tangible efforts to ensure that every eligible voter in Nuapada has the chance to participate. As part of the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the electoral roll:
Authorities have increased the number of polling stations. From earlier 302 booths, there will now be 358 polling stations in total: 36 in urban areas and 322 in rural zones.
Observers expect the by-poll to be a triangular fight among BJD, BJP, and Congress.
Political parties actively participated in each stage of voter roll revision, including sharing soft copies of draft rolls.
It sets a tone for how responsive parties and government will be in rural Odisha in the coming months.
Nuapada by-election could become a model of how rural electoral democracies can function well: inclusive, participatory, and respectful of all voices.
