Bhubaneswar, Odisha : 3rd August 2025: The Odisha Space Applications Centre (ORSAC) celebrated National Space Day today with enthusiasm and grandeur. The event was graced by Sri Krushna Chandra Patra, Minister for Science & Technology, along with eminent dignitaries and experts in the field of space science.
This year’s theme, “Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient Wisdom to Infinite Possibilities,” was highlighted during a special discussion session that emphasized India’s remarkable progress in space technology. The Government of India has officially declared August 23 as National Space Day to honor the historic success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, which achieved a safe and soft landing of the Vikram Lander and deployed the Pragyaan rover near the Moon’s south pole. With this achievement, India became the fourth country to land on the Moon and the first to reach the south pole, joining an elite group of space-faring nations.
To commemorate this day, ORSAC organized a state-level function at its Bhubaneswar premises. School students, particularly from 9th standard government schools, actively participated in the event. A space science quiz competition was conducted for the students, with prizes distributed to the winners, encouraging young minds to explore the possibilities of space research.
The event began with a welcome speech by Smt. Rashmita Panda, Chief Executive of ORSAC. Dr. Debadatta Swain, Associate Professor at IIT Bhubaneswar, delivered the keynote address, inspiring students and attendees with insights into India’s space journey.
Hon’ble Minister Sri Krushna Chandra Patra planted a sapling at the ORSAC premises as a symbolic gesture of growth and innovation. He also felicitated faculty and students of IIT Bhubaneswar and awarded the quiz winners, highlighting the importance of nurturing scientific curiosity among young learners.
The function concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Smt. Sofi Sainika, Administration Officer, ORSAC, appreciating the contributions of all participants, dignitaries, and students. The celebration reinforced Odisha’s commitment to promoting space education and research, inspiring the next generation of scientists.
