Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Modi to visit Odisha on September 27, with a public rally scheduled at Jharsuguda, officials confirmed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi revised his itinerary following the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of adverse weather due to a low-pressure area, government sources said on Tuesday. The Jharsuguda program will be a key highlight, where he will address citizens and regional leaders.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that the Prime Minister, who had initially planned to attend a programme in Berhampur of Ganjam district, will now visit Jharsuguda on September 27 to address a public gathering.
Authorities shifted the venue as a precautionary measure after the IMD predicted heavy rainfall and unfavorable conditions in parts of southern Odisha.
Earlier, Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari hinted at the venue change in view of the likely low-pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast on Thursday.
The Odisha government sent a report to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) proposing a new venue for Modi’s programme. After receiving confirmation from the PMO, the state government announced on Tuesday that the programme will take place in Jharsuguda on September 27.
The Prime Minister had initially planned to participate in the Seva Parv programme and inaugurate or dedicate several development projects to the nation on September 27. Notable projects include the capacity expansion of eight IITs, the doubling of the Koraput-Baiguda and Manabar-Koraput-Gorapur railway lines, and the inauguration of the Sambalpur-Sarala flyover.
Modi will also launch BSNL’s indigenously developed 4G network services across India. Additionally, he will announce the upgradation of MKCG and VIMSAR Medical Colleges to global-standard super-speciality institutions and inaugurate a national skill development programme.
The IMD Bhubaneswar had earlier predicted that a fresh low-pressure area might form over northwest and adjoining central Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast on Thursday.
