New Delhi :Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam will visit India from September 9 to 16 on a State Visit, marking his first overseas bilateral trip to India in his current term. During the visit, PM Ramgoolam will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Indian leaders, and visit Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Tirupati. The trip aims to strengthen diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties between Mauritius and India, reflecting their shared history and mutual cooperation
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, addressing a weekly media briefing in New Delhi, recalled that Ramgoolam had visited India in 2014 to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During his upcoming visit, Ramgoolam will travel to Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Tirupati. In Mumbai, he will attend a major business event to discuss trade and investment opportunities between the two nations.
Earlier this year, PM Modi visited Mauritius for the 57th National Day celebrations, where he held bilateral meetings with Ramgoolam and Mauritius President Dharam Gokhool. Both leaders highlighted the deep-rooted strategic, cultural, and economic ties between India and Mauritius.
Last month, Ramgoolam extended warm Independence Day greetings to India, praising the country’s commitment to freedom, democracy, and unity. He emphasized that the bond between the two nations is anchored in history, culture, and mutual respect. PM Modi thanked his Mauritian counterpart, describing Mauritius as a “strategic and trusted partner” in the shared pursuit of prosperity and development.
The India-Mauritius relationship dates back to 1948, shortly after Mauritius gained independence, and has consistently featured high-level political engagement and mutual understanding. Both countries continue to collaborate in areas such as trade, investment, education, and culture.
During the visit, Ramgoolam and Indian leaders are expected to explore bilateral initiatives in renewable energy, tourism, technology, and cultural exchanges, further strengthening the strategic partnership between New Delhi and Port Louis.
This visit reaffirms the commitment of both governments to deepening ties and advancing cooperation across political, economic, and cultural domains.
