Raipur : Maoists Chhattisgarh news highlights a major shift as the group signals a move toward active politics. The focus now appears to be on political engagement alongside their ongoing activities.
A letter, reportedly issued by a banned Maoist organisation, hints at a willingness to abandon armed struggle. It also suggests the group may engage in peace talks and participate in politics actively.
Many hail this as a historic moment in the decades-long fight against Naxalism. The shift follows intensified anti-Naxal operations and new rehabilitation policies by the state government.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, on his X handle, credited the Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy 2025 and the ‘Niyed Nellanar’ scheme for encouraging former Maoists.
“Maoists are now abandoning violence and returning to the mainstream,” he wrote. He cited the surrender of 12 Naxalites in Narayanpur district, including two area committee members with a combined bounty of ₹18 lakh, as proof of growing trust in the government.
Each surrendered cadre received a ₹50,000 incentive cheque and full access to benefits under the Naxal eradication policy. Since the current administration took office, 1,704 Maoists have surrendered, significantly reducing the insurgency’s strength.
The government aims to eradicate Naxalism completely by March 31, 2026. Union Home Minister Amit Shah welcomed the change, calling it a “positive shift in attitude” among the Maoists.
However, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma urged caution, questioning the authenticity of the letter issued by the banned organisation.
The state’s security apparatus remains alert. In Kanker district, police recently launched a campaign to flush out remaining insurgents. They pasted posters of 44 most-wanted Maoists in several villages.
These posters display photographs, names, bounties, and contact numbers for police officers. Additional SP Akash Shrimal emphasised that villagers can share information confidentially. Those wishing to surrender can reach out directly using the provided numbers.
