New Delhi : As the ‘Make in India’ initiative completed 11 years on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed its transformative impact on the country’s economic landscape and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
PM Modi said the initiative has strongly boosted India’s entrepreneurs and created a global, lasting impact over the years.
Taking to his social media handle, PM Modi wrote, “11 years ago on this day, we launched the Make in India initiative to add momentum to India’s growth and tap into our nation’s entrepreneurial potential.”
“It is gladdening to see how #11YearsOfMakeInIndia has strengthened economic growth and laid the foundation for Aatmanirbharta. It has encouraged innovation and job creation across sectors,” he added.
The government launched the Make in India initiative on September 25, 2014, to facilitate investment, build world-class manufacturing infrastructure, and transform the country into a manufacturing hub by improving ease of living and skill development indexes.
Since the launch, the Make in India initiative has achieved significant milestones.
The World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business rank improved from 142 to 63, while authorities cut red tape across the decade. Marking a revolution in business freedom, the government reduced over 42,000 compliances and replaced outdated files with digital systems.
The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has delivered outstanding results and drives massive growth. India’s manufacturing sector is racing toward the $1 trillion milestone by FY26. Manufacturing PMI reached 59.3 in August 2025, the strongest in 17 years.
Recent GST reforms have further energized the Make in India drive. By bringing taxes to zero for essential items and reducing major taxes on various products, the government has strengthened the country’s competitiveness.
