Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Bollywood icon Madhuri Dixit graced Odisha’s capital today to inaugurate the EKTA handloom festival, a flagship event organized by the Odisha government to mark National Handloom Day 2025. The star-studded opening ceremony at Janata Maidan saw the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Governor of Odisha, and other dignitaries.
Madhuri, who is also the Brand Ambassador of Odisha Handlooms, praised the rich craftsmanship of the state, highlighting traditional weaves like Bomkai and Sambalpuri.
“Bomkai and Sambalpuri are not just fabrics or handlooms. EKTA is a symbol of Odisha’s creativity, culture, and identity,” said the actress, applauding the artisans.
The ongoing mela at Janata Maidan, which will continue till August 13, features weavers and craftsmen from across Odisha and other states, showcasing their work to promote indigenous textile traditions and encourage sustainable livelihoods.
