Bhubaneswar, Odisha : A fresh low-pressure system is expected to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal or slightly south of it around August 13, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A cyclonic circulation may form initially, which is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area within the subsequent 24 to 48 hours.
Due to its influence, rainfall is likely to continue across the state till August 17. Moderate rainfall is expected in central Odisha and the southern coastal belt, while heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast for parts of western and southern Odisha.
In anticipation of thunderstorm activity accompanied by wind speeds of 30–40 kmph, the IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for 20 districts today. A similar warning is in place for tomorrow as well.
Additionally, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts are under Yellow Alert for expected heavy rainfall.
On August 7, Yellow Alerts have been issued for 20 districts, with five districts—Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj—specifically warned for heavy rain.
