Jharsuguda, Odisha: If you’re carelessly sharing your Aadhaar and mobile number, you could face serious trouble. A recent incident of loan fraud in Jharsuguda Sadar Police Station Area stands as a stark warning.
Sudeep Ganguli, a driver by profession, discovered that someone had fraudulently taken a bike loan worth ₹80,000 using his identity. During a civil check, he was shocked to learn that a financier had listed him as the guarantor. This was for a loan taken in January 2025.
Investigations found that a man named Shobharam, reportedly from Uttar Pradesh, took the loan from Shriram Finance. He did this by forging Sudeep’s Aadhaar, PAN cards, and Signature. Sources said Shobharam’s relative in Rourkela now rides the bike bought under this fraudulent loan.
Sudeep tried several times to reach Shobharam but got no response. He also faced hurdles while filing a complaint first approaching the Town Police Station and later the Sadar Police Station. Still, Sudeep alleged that the police have not registered any FIR yet. However, no substantial action has been taken so far, raising questions about how a private financier approved a loan using another person’s credentials.
Here, the big question is how an employee of Shriram Finance could forge someone else’s documents for personal gain and approve a loan in another person’s name without verification. This loan fraud has now become a topic of discussion in Jharsuguda.
Sadar Police Station Inspector In-Charge Swapna Gochhayat said the police know about the case and have questioned two people. She added that they will soon serve a notice to the main accused, Shobharam. Steps will be taken regarding the use of Sudeep’s name in the loan documents.
Meanwhile, Sudeep remains anxious and financially burdened as he continues to deal with the mental stress of the fraudulent loan. His fear grows stronger because if the bike used under this fraud gets involved in any illegal act, he might face serious trouble.
The case has become a major talking point in Jharsuguda, stressing the urgent need for stricter loan verification to prevent more incidents of loan fraud in the area. It also highlights the need for greater public awareness about personal data misuse.
