New Delhi : The Government of India has extended the last date for nominations for the prestigious Padma Awards 2026 from July 31 to August 15, 2025. The nominations can only be submitted through the official Rashtriya Puraskar Portal: https://awards.gov.in.
Instituted in 1954, the Padma Awards — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri — are among the highest civilian honors in India. These are announced annually on the eve of Republic Day and recognize distinguished and exceptional contributions across diverse fields such as Art, Literature, Education, Science & Engineering, Public Affairs, Medicine, Social Work, Sports, Civil Service, and Industry & Trade.
The Government reiterates its vision to transform these awards into the “People’s Padma”, making the process more inclusive and participatory. Citizens are strongly encouraged to nominate unsung heroes, particularly those from marginalized sections, women, SC/ST communities, divyangjans, and individuals engaged in selfless service to the nation.
Notably, all citizens, regardless of race, gender, occupation, or position, are eligible to be nominated. However, Government employees, including those in PSUs, are not eligible—with the exception of Doctors and Scientists.
Nominations must include a detailed citation (up to 800 words) that clearly articulates the nominee’s outstanding contributions. The format and complete guidelines are available on:
- Ministry of Home Affairs website: https://mha.gov.in
- Padma Awards Portal: https://padmaawards.gov.in
- Rules and Statutes: https://padmaawards.gov.in/AboutAwards.aspx
The nomination window, which opened on March 15, 2025, will now remain active till midnight of August 15, 2025.
