Thiruvananthapuram: A massive landslide in Kerala’s Adimali turned deadly on Saturday night. The tragedy occurred when a hillside collapsed onto a home, killing a man and injuring his wife. The late-night disaster triggered a seven-hour rescue battle through rain, darkness, and unstable soil. The landslide in Kerala’s Adimali was unexpected and devastating for the community.

The victim, Biju, and his wife Sandhya were inside their house around 10:30 p.m. Mud and debris smashed through the walls caused by the landslide in Kerala’s Adimali. The hill behind them suddenly gave way, trapping them beneath concrete slabs and household items.

Rescue teams from the Fire and Rescue Services and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the site. Local residents joined them, digging through the debris despite the rain. The rescuers used JCB machines to clear heavy layers of mud and concrete after the landslide in Kerala’s Adimali.

After hours of relentless work, the team finally reached the couple. They pulled out both victims. Biju had already suffered fatal injuries, while Sandhya survived and was immediately taken to Rajagiri Hospital in Kochi for treatment.

“We removed one concrete slab at a time to prevent another collapse. The ground kept shifting, and every move carried risk,” said a fire service official involved in the rescue. Landslide in Kerala’s Adimali has posed a significant danger to the community.

Residents blamed the tragedy on the recent hill excavation for road widening. They claimed it weakened the slope after days of continuous rain. Officials confirmed that they evacuated 22 nearby families just before the landslide. This action prevented a larger catastrophe.

The slide also damaged several nearby homes, filling interiors with mud and breaking walls. Authorities have sealed off the danger zone and launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse.
