Bhubaneswar , Odisha : The fertilizer supply in Karlamunda block, Kalahandi, came under direct monitoring after reports of a temporary shortage of urea reached the state government. Acting on the instructions of Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, the Chief District Agriculture Officer (CDAO) of Kalahandi inspected distribution activities on the ground.
The CDAO, accompanied by the Tehsildar of Karlamunda, the Block Agriculture Officer, and the Assistant Agriculture Officer, supervised the allocation process. Officials confirmed that under their direct supervision, urea distribution is progressing smoothly.
According to official data, Markfed supplied 91.62 metric tonnes of urea to Karlamunda block on September 4, 2025. This included 30.42 MT to Karlamunda PACS, 30.60 MT to Risida PACS, and 30.60 MT to Joradabera PACS. Authorities noted that the stock is sufficient compared to the number of farmers present at the centers.
The district agriculture team inspected all three PACS and assured that, if required, additional urea will be supplied through Markfed within the next two days. Current assessments indicate that Kalahandi district has adequate fertilizer availability to meet agricultural demand.
Meanwhile, to curb black marketing, enforcement drives are being carried out in Bhawanipatna, Kesinga, and Junagarh blocks. On Friday, inspections were conducted at three PACS and 20 private fertilizer dealer shops. Six dealers were served show-cause notices, and one shop in Kesinga was sealed for violations.
District officials stressed that the state government is committed to ensuring uninterrupted fertilizer supply. Farmers have been urged to cooperate with agriculture and administrative officers to maintain orderly distribution.
The proactive steps aim to reassure farmers that fertilizer availability in Karlamunda and across Kalahandi is under strict monitoring and adequate measures are in place to meet future demand.
