Kargil Victory Day: Army Chief Says, ‘New India Won’t Tolerate Terror’

New Delhi : As the nation marks the 26th anniversary of the Kargil War, tributes pour in across the country for the brave hearts who laid down their lives for the motherland. On this solemn occasion, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi issued a powerful and resolute message to the nation and its adversaries.

Calling it a “decisive victory”, General Dwivedi revealed details of ‘Operation Sindoor’, a recent military action targeting terrorist infrastructure across the border.

“This operation is not just a mission; it is our resolve, our answer, and our warning. The enemy will no longer dare to look India in the eye,” he declared.

According to the Army Chief, on May 6–7, Indian forces executed precision strikes on nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The strikes, he affirmed, were carried out with surgical precision and without any civilian casualties a testament to India’s military discipline and strategic foresight.

Reinforcing India’s evolving defense doctrine, General Dwivedi said:

“We have always extended the hand of peace, but when challenged, we have responded with strength and strategy. This is the New India resolute, modern, and relentless against terror.”

He emphasized that the operation was conducted under the strategic autonomy granted by the government, showcasing the synergy between India’s political will and military capability.

Looking ahead, General Dwivedi announced the induction of new specialized units to boost India’s defense posture:

‘Rudra’ Armoured Brigade – A cutting-edge armored force designed to dominate future battlefield scenarios.

‘Bhairav’ Commando Battalion – An elite special forces unit trained for rapid and lethal action in asymmetric warfare.

“These additions reflect our shift toward a dynamic, agile, and future-ready force,” the Chief asserted.

While India celebrates its strength and strategic depth today, the day remains an emotional reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers during the 1999 Kargil War. Vigils, wreath-laying ceremonies, and patriotic tributes were held across the country to honor the heroes of Kargil.
