New Delhi: Voting is underway for the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections for the 2025–26 session. Students are turning out enthusiastically to cast their votes. Polling began at 9 a.m. and will continue till 5 p.m. Counting will start at 9 p.m., and the final results are expected on November 6.
This year’s election has shaped up as a triangular contest among the Left Unity, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). The Left Unity comprising AISA, SFI, and DSF has fielded Aditi Mishra for president. The ABVP’s candidate is Vikas Patel, while NSUI has nominated Vikash Bishnoi. Independent groups, including BAPSA and the Progressive Students’ Association, are also contesting select posts.
Polling is being held in two sessions from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The JNUSU Election Committee announced the poll schedule on October 23. The process officially began the next day. Nomination submissions closed on October 27. This was followed by the release of the final candidate list on October 28.
Last year, the Left alliance won three of the four top posts. Meanwhile, the ABVP secured the joint secretary position, marking its first major win in nearly a decade. This time too, the main battle is expected between the Left Unity and ABVP.
The campaign period included GBMs from October 29 to 31. A university-wide UGBM took place on November 1, and the much-anticipated presidential debate was on November 2. This set the stage for a high-stakes student poll.
