Jharsuguda, Odisha : A significant step towards structured urban development in Jharsuguda district is underway as MLA Shri Tankadhar Tripathy submitted a formal proposal to the Urban Development Minister Shri Krushna chandra Mahapatra regarding the formation of the Jharsuguda Urban Development Council. The proposal aims to encompass Jharsuguda, Brajarajnagar, and Belpahar municipal councils, ensuring coordinated planning and development across the region.
During Minister Mahapatra’s visit to Jharsuguda today, Shri Tripathy highlighted the urgent need for a structured urban development framework. Jharsuguda district, known for its industrial prosperity, hosts multiple small and large-scale industries benefiting from abundant mineral resources, water facilities, and connectivity. The district is also strategically connected through an airport, railway stations, and national highways, contributing to a rapid increase in the population of these three towns.
Shri Tripathy emphasized that the rising population has put significant pressure on urban infrastructure, including roads, sanitation, healthcare, and public utilities, which are currently insufficient to meet the growing demand. The towns also lack comprehensive planning for road networks, housing, drainage systems, and other critical urban infrastructure. Without a coordinated approach, future growth could lead to congestion and other urban challenges.
The proposed Jharsuguda Urban Development Council aims to address these issues by creating a centralized authority to plan, manage, and implement development projects in these three key municipalities. The council would ensure that infrastructural development keeps pace with population growth, provides sustainable urban services, and supports industrial and residential expansion in a well-coordinated manner.
Shri Tripathy, through his letter, urged the Urban Development Minister to consider the proposal at the earliest and initiate the necessary steps for the formation of the council. This initiative is expected to bring long-term benefits to the residents of Jharsuguda, Brajarajnagar, and Belpahar, enhancing quality of life while supporting sustainable urban growth.
