Jharsuguda, Odisha : In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Jharsuguda Police intercepted a vehicle carrying illegal codeine-based cough syrup near Nikhil Dhaba on SH-10 on 6th September. Acting on credible intelligence, a team was deployed under the direction of SP Jharsuguda to intercept a navy-blue Brezza car coming from Sundargarh, suspected of transporting contraband.
During a meticulous search conducted under the NDPS Act, authorities seized 12 cartons containing 120 bottles each of Wings Codeine Phosphate & Triprolidine Hydrochloride syrup (ONREX) — totaling 1440 bottles or 144 liters. Additional items recovered included the vehicle, a battery-operated car key, three mobile phones, cash of ₹850, and one Aadhaar card.
Two individuals were arrested on the spot:

Ranjan Kumar Bhainsa (26), of Kherual Kantatikra, Badmal, Jharsuguda

Surendra Kumar Makakud (38), of Gariadihi RR Colony, Badmal, Jharsuguda
The incident has been registered as Jharsuguda PS Case No. 401 Dt. 06.09.2025 under Section 21(C) of the NDPS Act. The accused are to be forwarded to the Hon’ble Court of Jharsuguda, and the investigation remains ongoing.
A senior police official stated, “This operation demonstrates our commitment to curbing illegal drug trafficking in the region. The Jharsuguda Police remain vigilant against illicit activities, ensuring public safety and health.”
This successful operation highlights the proactive approach of Jharsuguda Police in tackling the menace of narcotics and sending a strong message to traffickers operating in the state.
