Jharsuguda Police Bust Illegal Arms Deal Under Operation Netra, Three Arrested

Swift action by Jharsuguda Police leads to the arrest of three accused with country-made pistols, magazines, and live ammunition.

Jharsuguda, Odisha : As part of Operation Netra, the Jharsuguda Police continue to maintain a tight vigil on antisocial activities, drug peddlers, arms dealers, and crimes against women. In a decisive breakthrough this afternoon, police teams busted an illegal arms deal in the Buromal area. This marked another success in which Jharsuguda Police bust illegal arms activities.


Operation Netra Crackdown Exposes Jharsuguda Illegal Arms Trade

Acting on credible intelligence, the team raided a secluded spot where three accused and their associates attempted to sell firing arms and ammunition. The swift action resulted in the arrest of the accused and the seizure of country-made pistols, magazines, and live rounds.

Jharsuguda Police Bust Illegal Arm

Preliminary investigation shows that the accused run illegal arms operations for profit and have links to several criminal cases. Following the arrests, police registered Jharsuguda PS Case No. 502 dated 18.10.2025 U/s 25(1)(a)/25(6)/25(8)/35 Arms Act R/w Sec 111(4) BNS and launched further investigation into how the Jharsuguda Police bust illegal arms network.

Accused Involved in the Jharsuguda Arms Case:

  1. Anil Sahu (45) alias Bantha, S/o Rajeswar Sahu, of Purunabasti (Badpada), Jharsuguda.

  2. Bitu Khatik (33) alias Sonkar, S/o Kesab Khatik, of Buromal near M.E. School, Jharsuguda.

  3. Suraj Sonkar (34) alias Khatik, S/o Nagina Sonkar, of Buromal, Santinagar, Jharsuguda.

Arms and Ammunition Seized During the Jharsuguda Illegal Arms Deal:

  • Two country-made pistols

  • Four magazines

  • Six live ammunition

  • One motorcycle

  • Three mobile phones

The Jharsuguda Police reaffirmed their commitment to intensify Operation Netra and dismantle criminal networks involved in illegal arms trade, drug trafficking, and other unlawful activities to ensure the district’s safety and peace.
